Companies with outstanding performance records have done just that and have kept up
with competitive change while making the workplace a satisfying, stable, happy place to be.
Organizations must let go of some of the old ideas such as bring the body to work but leave
the emotions at home. Another old idea is that there is no room in the workplace for humor.
Employees should be encouraged to bring their emotions, feelings and ideas to work and
have them heard and respected. It is necessary to feel emotional about your work in order to
excel at what you do.   As far as humor, it is the best medicine and performance soars with
positive attitudes.
Cultural change must start at the top with management.
Managers, get to know your
people they will
amaze you!  The talents you will find in your employees when you give them
the opportunity to express their ideas will be overwhelming. Look at each employee as an
individual, get to know something positive about them and inspire them by example and
encouragement.  Control, domination and distance will breed negativity, while a positive
attitude, insight and encouragement will nurture productivity.  Negativity in the workplace can
corrupt the corporate infrastructure as rust does to a vehicle.  Eventually negativity will build
up to cause internal "rot" or stop the essential workings of the business.
Interesting, important work that gives the employee a feeling of self worth will bring
about positive thinking and work as a rust inhibitor.  Happiness in the workplace comes down
to the very basic idea of treating others as they wish to be treated. Many times fellow
employees are treated in a manner we perceive to be correct without ever asking them what
they would like or how they would like to be treated.
Every one of us likes security, being recognized for accomplishments and to feel
important.  This can be accomplished in many small ways that cost the company nothing but
will definitely show up positive on the bottom line.  Please and Thank You are very small
words that carry an enormous amount of weight.
In a society where most of us spend more waking hours in the workplace than we do at
home it is essential that growth, self-satisfaction and fulfillment are part of our work
environment.  With these essential ingredients in place, happiness will come naturally and it
will be easy to get ready for work each day.  Try today to make your workplace a more
pleasant place to work by doing something positive for someone else.  Communication and
thinking of others is the direction that needs to be taken to bring happiness to the workplace.
